On Sunday, 5 November, the Meteorological Office in Dominica issued a Flood Warning due to moisture and instability. This trough caused major damage in Kalinago Territory to houses and road structures on the eastern coast. This trough caused serious damage to the communities along Dominica’s eastern coast.
Kalinago Territory was the hardest hit, followed by Atkinson and Antrizle. The rain continued for 4 hours, causing rock slides, landslides and washed away the main road, making travel impossible last night for smaller vehicles. The road is open to vehicular traffic today, but drivers must be cautious. People traveling from Atkinson to the north also had to leave their cars and walk home.
Due to the heavy rains, there were two large landslides on Crayfish River. The first slide occurred about ten feet from a private residence. This was a direct result of a road expansion and rehabilitation program that took place in Kalinago Territory.
The occupant, Mr. Paris, said that “no one from the authority came to me yet for a conversation”. I am afraid that if it rains more, the possibility of a landslide is high and my house could be swept away.
