In New Haven County, Sunday evening and Monday morning, a powerful wind and heavy rain knocked down trees and rendered power out. The roads were also flooded.
Nancy Novak, of Wallingford, said, “We heard the crash, we felt a thud and heard the glass break.”
Nancy Novak and Steve Novak rushed out of their bedroom to see what was going on.
She said, “You’re not sure what to say.” “It’s terrifying!”
A part of the tree fell on their Wallingford house, and branches came through their skylight and roof. Together with Andy, they jumped into action.
Steve Novak explained, “We’ve got him up there, the tarp is up and we have the ladder.” We held off the rain a bit but water was pouring out of all the holes.
Now they’re left to pick up the pieces, and repair the damage caused by this tree.
He said, “The ceilings and walls are falling down. We had water coming through.” It’s a bad situation, but no one was hurt. So we are fine!
They are optimistic about the holiday season.
Nancy Novak explained, “It is a couple of days before Christmas so let’s see what happens.” We usually celebrate Christmas in this country, but we will see. “It will be an exciting adventure.”
Wallingford Police told News 8 that it had been a very busy day. There were several requests for them to cut down trees or wires.
Police in nearby Cheshire said that a tree fell on power lines, knocking down traffic lights in Southington and other electrical power at the northern end of the town.
The heavy rains in Wolcott flooded roads.
Ed Stephens, Wolcott’s police chief said: “A lot of trees are down and the roads have been inundated with water.” It’s hard to get through. A mudslide occurred in the northern part of town.
