Mountain Brook continues to clean up after a storm that damaged homes and knocked down trees and power poles.
Mountain Brook is a noisy and busy community.
Catherine Anne Schilleci was aware of a storm that would be coming. The sound of the storm still surprised her while she slept.
I was awakened when it sounded as if a bomb went off. Then my home began to shake. “My bed was shaking, which scared me,” Schilleci recalled.
Her home, which she had lived in for 41 years, was destroyed by two large trees.
Schilleci stated, “It (tree) fell this way.”
WVTM crew 13 found Joe Long with his co-worker inspecting the damages on Old Leeds Road, and the Lakeshore Area.
Long explained, “We go and we help the people who have been damaged and work to get them back to normal.”
They are both volunteer assessors for the Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief. This organization is well-known to assist people in recovering after a hurricane.
We can tarp roofs to protect homes temporarily until permanent repairs are made. We do all of this as part of our ministry. “There’s no cost to those we assist,” Long stated.

Schilleci is one of the fortunate ones to have a generator running to keep warm during the night. But as days pass, the insurance company will need to be contacted to fix her roof and clean up the damage inside.
Magdala Louissaint, a reporter for WVTM 13, asked: “Would You Say That You’re Doing OK?”
Schilleci responded, “I am doing well. My family and neighbors are great.” We’re good.”
