Overnight, damaging winds tore the roof off a Sydney store and battered houses. They also threw down trees on roads.
In the last 24 hours the NSW State Emergency Services has responded to over 90 calls, the majority in Sydney.
Over 40 of these calls were made after midnight Friday morning.
Crews worked for many hours in strong winds to fix the roof at the fruit and vegetables shop in Peakhurst, in the south of the city.
Ashley Pearson, the SES’s duty operations coordinator, said that there were also reports of roof damage in some Sydney houses.
The majority of the jobs were done by removing trees.
Overnight, the SES received several calls in Orange, Cowra, Grenfell, located in central-west of the State, as well as parts of its south.
No reports have surfaced of serious injuries or infrastructure damages.
Sydney Airport was also affected by the windy conditions. Airlines cancelled a number of flights within Australia and warned passengers of possible delays.
There have been no cancellations of international flights.
Sydney Airport issued a press release urging passengers to contact their airlines for the latest information on their flight status.
Perisher received a fresh dusting of snow.
A tree fell on a garage of a young married couple in Frenchs Forest.
Linda Causero stated that items in the shed would be used for her wedding.
She said, “We are getting married next month so we have a few items in the garage.”
I guess we will wait and see. But a few items are gone.”
Brendan Buckton said that he was on the roof at dawn to check the weather.
He said, “I looked at the trees in the wind and thought, ‘This might be something.'”
I did make it in time, but the idea wasn’t mine.
