According to San Francisco fire officials, fire crews put out a 3-alarm blaze in the north of Panhandle district early on Monday morning. Two people were taken to hospital.
San Francisco Fire Department officials reported that the fire began at the house in the 700 block Masonic Avenue just before 3:25 am when the dispatch received the first multiple calls regarding the incident.
According to the SFFD, about 100 firefighters were dispatched to respond to this major incident.
The building that started the fire suffered a partial collapse, both its floor and roof. According to firefighters, one occupant was rescued with only minor injuries and taken to the hospital. Authorities said that a second woman, who jumped to safety from the third-floor of the home in flames and was hospitalized for moderate injuries.
The fire forced the evacuation of multiple buildings. Fire crews are still on scene to investigate the cause of the fire. The fire was started by construction taking place on the ground floor.
Fire officials have said that the three damaged buildings are not being reoccupied for reasons of safety. However, residents in other houses around the affected area can now return home.
Mariano Elias, Lt. of the SFFD said that a third person had been taken to hospital for evaluation. They were unable to see the caution tape and attempted to climb the ladder truck.
Two people were displaced from the burning building, and another five from an adjacent structure which was also damaged by the fire.
Officials have announced that the portion of Masonic Avenue from Hayes to Fulton Streets will be closed and remain so for several hours. Officials advise motorists to find alternative routes and avoid the area.
