Officials said that a fire which started in the garage spread to two vehicles parked on Sunday morning, but did not cause any injuries. The estimated losses were $750,000.
Redmond Fire and Rescue responded, with Bend and Cloverdale firemen, shortly after 10:00 a.m., to a reported structure inferno at the 8300-block of Forest Ridge Loop. Battalion chief Ken Brown confirmed this.
Brown stated that the tenants of the duplex became aware of the fire after smelling smoke in the area between the laundry and the interior garage entry.
In a press release, Brown stated that “they quickly realized the garage interior was on fire and self evacuated and called 911.”
First arriving crews found that the fire had started in the garage and spread through the unit to two SUVs in the driveway.
The fire was put out by firefighters from outside, as other crews entered adjacent duplexes to search for survivors and check for the spread of the fire. Brown stated that the damage to the adjacent townhouse was only smoke-related.
Brown stated that one of the rental cars moved away the older SUV from the fire, and the vehicle suffered minimal damage.
Brown stated that the exact cause of the fire was still under investigation. However, investigators believe at this time it began at the ceiling in the garage.
The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office provided assistance at the fire scene, as did Central Electric Cooperative and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. American Red Cross was also called to assist the victims of this fire.
