The community of Albany has united to offer a sincere gesture to show its gratitude and to support a true American Hero. Freddy Jimenezdejesus – a native of Albany and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who proudly defended their country – faced financial hardships that seemed unsurmountable in the COVID-19 epidemic.
But his story changed when Pinnacle Roofing teamed up with Owens Corning Capital District as well as Habitat for Humanity Capital District to embark on a project that provided Jimenezdejesus a more than a simple new roof. Instead, it became a powerful symbol of unwavering hope, solidarity and support.
Jimenezdejesus was a Marine Corps recruit who enlisted immediately following high school. He said his motivation was very clear: to protect and serve his country, which gave so much to him and his wife. For four long years he devoted himself to this cause. His dedication embodied that spirit of service which defines Marines. But when his military service was over, it opened a whole new world of challenges.
Freddy and Freddy’s girl friend were not immune to the economic turmoil that followed COVID-19. The two faced layoffs and, while unemployment did provide some relief, this wasn’t an option that could be sustained. In a financial precarious situation, as the unemployment benefits declined and jobs remained rare, both men faced layoffs. As they struggled to meet their financial obligations, it was an uncertain time.
Freddy: “You’re right, we’re not really lacking in funds. “We’re very short. “We’re really short. It’s a fact that the economy is in recession. Most people don’t have that kind of cash.
Pinnacle Roofing, a Albany-based roofer, joined with Owens Corning and Habitat for Humanity Capital District for a dramatic change in Freddy’s life. In this collaborative effort, the goal was to not only repair a roof but also restore hope and rebuild lives.
Gregory Musk, Pinnacle Roofing Inc. and site supervisor Gregory Musk stated that “there are a couple of groups who help veterans by giving them back what they have done to protect and serve us.” This is Pinnacle Roofing Inc. trying to give back in the best way we can. They are getting a new roof or masonry work done on their chimney.
Owens Corning contributed roofing materials. Pinnacle Roofing supplied their own team. Other businesses in the area also joined.
Jimenezdejesus: “A program of this kind will certainly save us some cash in the long run.” The slate does not need to be replaced. It won’t be necessary to replace our entire roof. “Sure — It is a significant life-changing moment.”
Jimenezdejesus, as he watched a dedicated crew of Marines work without ceasing to amaze him, was instantly reminded about his Marine Corps service.
“It must be at least 100 degrees here,” said he. “I can tell these guys are very busy. Marines! We can’t sit by. It’s right that we fight. Then I decided to become a part of their fight.
The project symbolizes much more than simply a roof replacement; it represents community support for Veterans like Freddy as well as their families.
