A group of people in Yerevan threw paint on Tuesday at the Mordechai Avi Jewish Religious Center.
A group that is still unknown hurled red paint into a Synagogue located in the capital of Armenia this week. This incident took place at the Mordechai Navi Jewish Religious Center in Armenia, which is the heart of the Jewish Community.
A statement linking this incident with Israel’s sale of arms to Azerbaijan began to circulate on pro-Armenian media. Israel buys an important portion of Azerbaijan’s oil imports.
They also mentioned recent criticisms by some rabbis against Armenian officials, who have compared Azerbaijani actions towards Armenian soldiers and civilians with the Shoah.
The statement said that “Jews, who are complicit with Turkish crimes, the Aliyev regime [president of Azerbaijan] and stained by the blood of Armenians and Artsakh, are the enemies of Armenians.” He also said that the “Jewish state” provides weapons to Aliyev’s criminal regime and Jews in America and Europe support him. The Jews, Turkey and Aliyev are all declared enemies of Armenians.
Pinchas GOLDSCHMIDT, the president of the Conference of Rabbis of Europe released a press release following the incident. He said it was an unfortunate situation. Goldschmidt said that the Jewish community of Armenia was not involved in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
