The National Weather Service’s (NWS) team of surveyors reported two tornadoes this past weekend in Kentucky, one EF-1, and another EF-2.
The National Weather Service believes that the damage to Logan County west of Bowling Green is consistent with an EF-2 Tornado. The winds of a tornado that falls into this category are usually around 115 mph.
In the Bowling Green region, survey crews found EF-1 damage. This will be the second tornado, according to NWS.
Residents of Allensville in Todd County, just north from the Tennessee border, saw their community in ruins as the sun rose on Sunday morning.
Around 3:30 pm on Saturday, Dirk Reid was home with his wife. The couple took shelter inside.
Reid explained: “Plenty of rain, and then the flat-line wind took part of our roof off, as well as [the] neighbor’s roof, fence, trees, etc. It just tore it all up.” It was over in a matter of seconds.
There were no roofs on homes, no limbs on trees and there was no electricity for residents.
Reid: “Water in the house, [the] roof is leaking.” No power, [the] powermeter was ripped from the side of [the] house. “We’ll need to call an electrician out.”
He can’t provide the help his wife needs if there is no power. It is necessary to run her vacuum pump, which she uses for the leg injuries that have plagued her for many years.
Reid said, “I have a wife. I’ve got to figure out how to recharge her vacuum.” She has wounds in her legs. “I have to find that charger and get it.”
On Sunday, crews cleaned up the debris left by the storm.
Reid said, “Oh no…it’s a mess.”
This 66-year old man is originally from Louisiana. He said that he had been in many other tornados, but this was the worst.
He said, “We made it through OK.” The dogs were afraid, but are fine.
Reid says he cannot afford to leave his home because of the hurricane and his wife’s sickness.
The tornadoes that hit Kentucky did not cause any fatalities.
