Bacon’s Furniture, a Port Charlotte retailer, was particularly affected by Hurricane Ian.
The family-owned furniture store, located in Port Charlotte just north of Fort Myers (in September 2022), suffered serious roof damage. At one point, there were 2 inches of water standing throughout the building. It houses an Ashley and Bacon’s Furniture. A warehouse offsite also suffered significant damage.
Bacon’s had the opportunity to improve their business after this tragedy.
We saw this as a chance to implement some of the changes we’d always wished to, but had never been able to because it was too labor-intensive and time-consuming. We tried to make it a positive, said Lee Bacon. The brand’s General Manager told Furniture Today. We took time from both the Bacon and Ashley sides to remove walls and expand the floor area.
After the cleaning, the officials of Bacon’s came up with an interim plan.
We were able conduct business from one side, while working on the other. When we opened the Ashley’s end, we cleaned up Bacon’s and moved all the furniture to Bacon’s. We then started the construction of the Ashley’s and a small footprint was created for customers. As construction progressed, we opened up the store.
In November the Ashley store was reopened softly. The store now has the new 7.0 model. Bacon hopes that Bacon’s will open its doors in 2024.
We will completely re-set the Bacon’s Gallery. Bacon stated that the store will look like a completely new building. It’s exciting, there is no doubt about that. “We’re going have the most exciting brands in the business.”
The renovations also allowed Bacon’s more space to be created in the main warehouse.
We reduced the Bacon side a bit and increased warehousing. Bacon explained that the area was contained. By taking advantage of this time on Bacon’s side, we were able to remove walls and create more open spaces. We also shortened the Bacon’s back and increased the warehouse space.
