The hospital has released four firefighters injured in a Saturday night three-alarm fire at an apartment complex on Worcester Road.

According to Fire Chief Michael Dutcher, four firefighters were injured in the fight against fires at Green between 9 and 90 at 1630 Worcester Road.

The condition of a pregnant woman who was taken to hospital is unknown. Dutcher stated that she had been taken to the hospital more out of precaution rather than for any injury.

Chief said that although the cause of this fire was not determined, it was considered an accident.

At 7:30 pm on Saturday, firefighters responded to the complex. On arrival there were smoke and flames coming from the 4th floor. A second alarm was called immediately.

Dutcher said that the crews had done an incredible job in pushing to the 4th floor to put out the fire. High-rise fires require a lot of labor. The crews climbed to the fourth level in difficult circumstances, with smoke and no visibility.

Fire Departments from Marlborough Sherborn Southborough Wayland and Wayland responded to the third alarm.

Smoke spread through a part of the building causing further damage. The fire was contained in one apartment on the 4th floor. Dutcher reported that 40 people were displaced as of noon on Monday. Dutcher said that the majority of people would be able return to their homes Tuesday or Wednesday.

The chief stated that the fire had been extinguished in 30 minutes. The smoke was everywhere and caused significant damage. To evacuate the smoke, we had to search door by door and unit by unit.

Dutcher advised that if there’s a fire people should keep the doors of affected areas closed. Closed doors help to slow down the spread of smoke and fire, which can limit damage.

Dutcher stated that the fire was extinguished in 30 minutes, but it took another 4 hours to remove smoke.
