Bucaramanga authorities launched a project to restore the facades and walls of Cabecera after receiving complaints from residents and business owners.
In Cabecera, the number of damages to commercial buildings, residences and public areas will increase in 2023. Spray paint was used to create insulting phrases, grotesque drawings and other obscene images, along with meaningless scrawls.
Scratches and marks can be seen in different parts of the iconic neighbourhood, which negatively affects its image. Vandals also targeted street furniture and public service networks.
Merchants and residents in Cabecera, outraged at this situation and concerned about it, made public their concerns and demanded that the Local Government take action to stop these vandalism acts.
After the Vanguardia complaint, this week intervention and recovery works were launched on the infrastructures and public furnishings that have been vandalized over the past few months in Cabecera.
The Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office, along with the Metropolitan Police Department led Cabecera’s first beautification day on Thursday. This time, Carrera 32, between San Pio Park & 48th St, was closed.
Vandals scratched windows in commercial buildings on Carrera 33. It was an area that had been vandalized in a major way.
The authorities have linked violations of the National Code of Security and Citizen Coexistence to the first beautification day.
This activity was organized by the secretary of interior of Bucaramanga’s Mayoral Office and its Coexistence Managers.
The uniformed officers from the CAI San Pio as well as the Cabecera Community Action Board have also been a great help.
Twelve offenders used a roller and brush to paint over lines and scratches on Carrera 33.
The community has warned that other areas affected by vandalism include 51st Street between Carreras35 A and 37. There are multiple commercial buildings in this area which were targeted.
The section between Streets 37 and 34 is another section that requires beautification.
Vanguardia was informed by the Municipal Administration on Thursday, that these interventions will be continued in Commune 12 in order to benefit sectors like Cabecera or Soto Mayor.
Next week, two more interventions will be scheduled.
The authorities have reported that next Friday, a beautification event will take place at another important point, Carrera 36 and Calle56, behind the La Presentacion School.
Urban artists will be involved in this activity, and they’ll contribute to the creation of a mural on the wall of said part of the city. The green spaces of this sector will be cleaned as well.
The Secretary of Interior at the Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office launched a campaign to eradicate sources of pollution and insecurity due to the garbage generated by various locations.
This work also affected private properties and lots, which were deprived of their security and turned into dens for crime and drugs.
On Thursday in Soto Mayor, work also took place on a parcel located at Carrera 28 and Calle 51. Cleaning tasks and the construction of a wall to block street-dwellers and shoppers were completed at this stage.
In Commune 12, cleaning actions have also been intensified, especially in the natural and public areas. A lot between Unab Park and Carlos Enrique Virviescas was also recently cleaned.
