After the FBI intensified the investigation, the man pleaded dumbness
Robert Alvin Justus Jr. was fed up. Robert Alvin Justus Jr. wanted to vent and needed the FBI.
Justus was driving an unmarked van through the Federal Building in Oakland in Oakland in May 2020 when his friend, Steven Carrillo of the U.S. Air Force, shot the booth’s security guards. One Federal Protective Services agent died and another security guard was wounded.
Carrillo is now under arrest, and Justus has become increasingly paranoid. It turned out that he had correctly guessed, after seeing a silver vehicle with tinted window outside his Millbrae flat, that it belonged to FBI. His main concern was the possibility that his Boogaloo group – a loosely coordinated antigovernment movement that’s preparing for another Civil War, and is believed to have inspired the Oakland bombing – might try to get him.
Justus began an FBI interrogation lasting several hours, in June of 2020. “My entire life is a hell,” he told agents. In June 2020, Justus added “Honestly I wish I hadn’t done anything of this.”
First, the transcript from that FBI interview has now been made available. The document reveals new details on what lead up to an assassination just yards away from George Floyd’s huge demonstration. Justus’ trial begins next week. His trial is scheduled to begin next week.
The transcript reveals that Carrillo, 33, was apprehended by Santa Cruz County police for killing Sheriff’s Sergeant and ambushing officers. Damon Gutzwiller was appointed as Underwood’s killer by Gutzwiller.
Justus was asked by agents why he had not done more in order to prevent the Underwood murder. He pleaded dumbness.
Justus has insisted that he was the class clown “every f–ing year” in school, according to a transcript. “I do not pay nearly as much f–ing attention to anything as I ought. I’m a complete dunce.”
Prosecutors claim the locksmith, 33, showed up to the federal building in San Francisco at 450 Golden Gate Ave. with his mother and dad, who told the security staff that their boy wanted to see the FBI.
Justus has made his statements to FBI and it is possible that the jury will view him as an entrapment, who went to Oakland the same night in order to protest Floyd’s murder but was actually Carrillo’s passenger on a mission to “kill as many officers, agents, as we can.”
Carrillo has pleaded guilty in the deaths of Underwood as well as Gutzwiller. In the Ben Lomond shooting, Carrillo was sentenced for life in prison without parole and 41 years for the Oakland shooting. He currently resides in Mule Creek State Prison.
This 202-page document shows how FBI agents became friends with Justus, and asked him to tell his story in detail three times. The FBI agents gave Justus cigarettes and soda during breaks and talked to him about COVID-19 and Revolutionary War.
Justus told the story of his encounter with Carrillo as he sat with his dad in an FBI room. Agents questioned them not only on the incident that occurred May 29, but also about Justus’ communications with Boogaloo Movement followers. Carrillo said that he had met him via “/K/alifornia Kommando,” an online group of Boogaloo supporters. The Facebook page has since closed.
Justus tells his father that he is scared during an interview.
Justus received assurances from FBI agent Richard Harvey, that he will feel immense relief if just he stays focused and speaks the truth.
Harvey stated, “Trust that I am telling you right now you will be a thousand times happier once you let this go.”
Justus later told the FBI he chose to ride with Carrillo to the rally instead of taking BART. After meeting in a parking lot at San Leandro, the situation quickly deteriorated. Carrillo pulled a homemade drape inside the van and revealed multiple guns, body armor, and Molotov cocktails, said he. Carrillo said that he saw an AC Transit bus approaching and was about to kill the driver.
“I said ‘Dude, he looks just like a guy on his break. You should not do that, because he doesn’t seem to be paying any attention. Justus told FBI “Don’t do that.” Carrillo pondered it, then replied: “Yeah. It’s okay. Then, he filled up even more magazines.
Justus reported that Carrillo had pointed a weapon at him next and called him a “rat” or a policeman. When Justus confirmed this, Carrillo ordered Justus drive the van back to Oakland.
Justus stated that, when they were at the Oakland Federal Building on Clay Street in Oakland, he was determined that he’d try to convince Carrillo to do anything. Carrillo had surprised Justus by opening the van door and firing at the phone booth.
“I said to him, they don’t look like policemen. They are security guards.” Justus recalled that Justus opened the doors and fired at both of them. He pointed his gun at the driver and ordered him to stop driving.
Justus noted that Carrillo appeared “energetic,” a notable change from the “scary, calm” manner in which he had behaved up until then. Justus stated that Underwood was on the ground and so was the second officer when the shots went off, but still tried to convince him no one had been hit.
CHP police officers had blocked an exit on the way to freeway. Carrillo, who was driving the van, told Justus to pick up a handful nails and throw them onto the street. Then he suggested they head toward Concord. Justus told Carrillo he was scared he would die next and urged him to return home.
Justus says he informed Carrillo before parting ways that he was heading home to enjoy some bourbon saved for years. Once he got home, Justus would always make excuses when Carrillo wanted to get together again. And he deleted any messages that were sent to him by Carrillo.
Harvey was skeptical that Justus had as much knowledge as he said.
Harvey: “It’s blatantly evident that you are about to experience something terrible when you arrive in Oakland.” It’s obvious that something bad is about to happen when you land in Oakland, Harvey explained. What would a rational human observer from the outside think about this fact pattern?”
Justus said, “I do not know.”
Harvey continued, “Well you didn’t know?” “You’d be surprised at what people might think of …”
Justus cut him off. “I would like an attorney,” he said.
Justus’ tone changed when the FBI agent informed him that he would be arrested for murder, tried murder and “conspiracy”. He complained about a painful hemorrhoid as well and even threatened to urinate himself on them if they did not take him to restroom.

Harvey answered, “We have finished speaking. He was taken by the police to Santa Rita Jail on an arrest warrant.
